How To Create A Home Survival Kit

Water: that’s the essential ingredient to any well-stocked emergency preparedness kit.  We can go several days, even weeks without food, but we can’t go too long with out water and suffering severe consequences.

What else in the way of survival food should you have in your kit?  Well, it depends of course on how many “survivors” there are in your tribe.

For certain it is recommended that you have at least the following and, for food items and water, at least a week’s supply if not more:

  1. Water (as mentioned), which can be plain old tap or the best H2O from your Berkery water filters.  It doesn’t matter.  Just be sure it’s in plastic not metal containers and that you have enough for several days for every person and with a 5-year shelf life.  And, don’t forget water purification tablets!
  2. Food: freeze dried fruits and vegetable snacks; energy bars; Check out Alpineaire Food kits; many contain delicious meals for up to 7 people for a week or longer—even pasta with clarified butter.
  3. Thermal Blankets
  4. Waterproof ponchos with Hoods
  5. Lightsticks
  6. Solar / Hand-Crank Powered Light, Radio, & Cell Phone Charger
  7. Emergency Candles
  8. Waterproof Matches
  9. Safety Whistle
  10. Tissue Packs - Help maintain sanitary conditions.
  11. Diapers and baby wipes for small children
  12. Pet snacks
